Overview
The Container Type object provides the ability to establish the types of containers used in the packaging and shipping processes. The Container Type carries a tare weight which can be used to determine gross shipment weights. When Container records are created during the Sales Order Fulfillment process, default values are set from the Container Type indicated on the Product Master. They can also be manually entered.
Application
Default container types can be set on the Product Master to facilitate automated packaging and to assist in determining shipping charges prior to packaging. They can also be used to define the type of container needed for shipping specific products. For example, some Products may require refrigerated or temperature-controlled containers.
Prerequisite
Sales Order Setup > SO Control - determines if containers are auto-numbered and if so, carries the next container number.
System Setup > Unit of Measure Master - determines what Unit of Measure values are available for use with containers.
