Overview
Each Item to be manufactured is assigned a Routing Master, detailing all the required process steps. Routings are assigned to Items directly though the Routing Master / Item relationship if a routing is unique to the item. Routings may also be assigned to Items indirectly through the assignment of a Commodity Code-specified Item Master relationship, if a Routing is common to many items. Item Master records with common routing processes need to be assigned to the same Inventory Commodity Code to take advantage of this option. One item using that Commodity Code is then specified on the Commodity Code tab “Misc’, as the ‘Routing Item’. A Routing Master is created for that item. All other items assigned to that Commodity Code will then use this Master Routing whenever they are produced, as long as the item does not have a unique Item/Routing. That unique Item/Routing is always the default if it exists for the part being produced. If no Item/Routing exists, the system checks for the Commodity Code Routing Item to find the correct Routing.
