Features are associated with items in Rootstock (including Lot and/or Serial items). This functionality provides the ability to assign a set of attribute or features to an Engineering Item Master and, if it is serial/lot track, to related Serial/Lot records. When a Category/Feature structure exists for the Engineering Item Master, new inventory Lot and/or Serial instances of the item will automatically inherit the Feature Category/Feature structure from the Engineering Item Master structure. This functionality can also be used in conjunction with the Product Configurator where, when a Configuration Session is exported, it is possible to have the Features from the selected Configuration Session Components exported to an Inventory By Serial Record instead of a Sales Order, for details see: Configuration Selection Component: Feature Detail,
Prerequisites
System Defaults
Check Item Feature Active box.
Feature Category
Create Feature Categories (Category examples could be Color, Year, Model, Material, etc).
After Saving a Feature Category a new tab will appear with a button to Add/Delete Features
Click on said button to add Features on pop-up window. Save once completed.
Click Add/Delete Feature. This will open the feature maintenance grid for this Engineering Item Master.
Select Feature Category from available values from step 2.
Select Category from those values included in the selected Feature Category. A Feature is required when a Feature Category is selected.
Add as many Feature/Feature Categories as desired for this Engineering item Master.
When done, click Save.
NOTE Adding Features to Engineering Item Master records will automatically assign its set of features to new Inventory by Serial and/or Lot for given Engineering Item (if the Item is Serial and/or Lot tracked).
Processing
CreateInventory By Serial Number and/orInventory By Lot Number records, which could be either by;
Performing Rootstock transaction with new Serial/Lot inventory impact, or
Manually from Inventory By Serial Number orInventory By Lot Number listviews, by pressing on New Inventory by Serial/Lot Number button.
If a Category/Feature structure exists for the Engineering Item Master, the resulting Lot and/or Serial records will inherit the set of Feature/Feature Categories from the related Engineering Item Master record. There may be some features to be inherited from the Engineering Item Master, but others to be case specific, therefore features are viewable and editable via a maintenance grid on the appropriate Serial/Lot Inventory Item pages.
The feature will be marked as Active
Date Feature Added will be set to the day the Category is added.
Users can access the features maintenance grid through the Features tab on Serial/Lot Inventory Item pages, by pressing the Add/Delete Features button, in order to add/delete Feature/Feature Categories sets.
For Inventory By Lot Number records, the user will be able to set a Feature Qty (optional).
After a Feature is added to a Lot/Serial record, user can only perform edits to Feature Qty and Active fields.
Possible to add any of the existing Feature/Feature/Categories, even if they are not added on the Engineering Item Master.
EXAMPLE Consider a physical entity like a table, a definition of its feature categories could include;
Color
Shape
Material
etc..
Below we have examples of features for the various feature categories;
Color – Blue, Red, Green, Black, White, etc.
Shape – Circle, Square, Rectangle, Hexagon, etc.
Material – Wood, Plastic, etc.
Once the features have been defined for each feature categories, the feature categories along with the features may then be added to the Engineering Item Master. Following the same example of the Table, which happens to be a Serial & Lot Tracked Item, the feature category ‘Material’ could be added to the Engineering Item Master under the tab ‘Item Features’. The feature ‘Wood’ would be available for selection from the available drop down list, thus adding the feature category and feature to the Engineering Item Master. When Inventory is added for this Table entity, the Feature Category ‘Material’ and Feature ‘Wood’ are also added along with the serial and lot inventory. This could be checked on the Inventory By Serial Number record for the particular serial, and Inventory By Lot Number for the particular lot. Both Feature Category and Feature values could also be derived via the export of a Configuration Session. The Feature Category would initially be defined on the Configuration Selection Component > Feature Detail tab. As export output from the session, we would have the feature information available on the Inventory by Serial number record.
