Overview
Use the Engineering BOM Copy function to copy one Bill of Material Parent item to another Parent item.
- All or a subset of components from the originating BOM may be copied to the new BOM.
TIP This is helpful when creating a new BOM for an Engineering Item and the BOM is similar to an existing Engineering Item‘s BOM.

1. Select or Enter Key Data Elements
Fields
Enter each field following the fields under From BOM -
Division: The Division in which this BOM resides.
From Item: Item Number of Assembly to be copied.
Effective Date: Date Component is Effective.
Status: The status of the BOM being copied from. Options are 'All', 'Pending', 'Implemented' or 'Released'.
Enter each field following the fields under To BOM -
Division: The Division in which the new BOM is being added.
Assembly Item: Item Number of the Assembly to which the BOM is being copied to.
Add Revision: Revision level of Parent Item when Component becomes effective.
NOTE Some fields may have a prerequisite entry. Enter a valid ‘From’ Assembly Item and a valid ‘To’ Assembly Item.
NOTE If Revision Control is active, the ‘To’ Assembly must have a valid Revision in place for this action.
- The Revision status must be at Pending or Released.
- If ECO is active, the ‘To’ Assembly must have a valid Engineering Change Order at status Pending or Released.
2. Retrieve BOM Button
3. Click on the Retrieve BOM Button to display the “From Item” BOM components in the ‘Select Components to Copy’ section of the screen.
4. The components to copy are selected by checking or unchecking the box to the far left labeled ‘Select’.
5. Click on ‘Copy Selected Components’ Button and the selected components will be added to the “Assembly Item”.
NOTE If the ‘To BOM’ Assembly Item already has a BOM, any added components will be appended to the existing BOM.
The ‘Line Number’ is used to add the same component to the BOM at the same level, which can be useful.
EXAMPLE When specifying exact quantities of an item being used on different operations. If not specified, the system uses line number 0.
