Inventory Location Numbers

Overview

Inventory locations are generally made up of two main components. First is the actual building or section of a building where stock is held. In Rootstock, this is known as the Location ID. Within the Location ID, a specific row, aisle, shelf, and bin may also be identified. This part of the location is called the Location Number. Location Numbers may be created on the fly or, for more control, created in advance.

The Inventory Location Numbers table provides the means to create Location Number in advance. These are used when the Site the inventory is held in is set to use pre-defined Location Numbers (field ‘Location Number Required Ind’ is checked on Site Master UI).

Inventory Location Numbers are only required when using "pre-defined" Location Numbers as set on Site Master.

Application

Location Numbers are a very flexible way of identifying the exact location of material in the warehouse. Row, aisle, and bin locations may be set up in advance, and each location may uniquely identify the type of container, rack, or bin in use. When putting material away or pulling it for orders, unique and clear Location Numbers simplify the task by providing documents in stocking order, if desired, greatly reducing the number of steps required to perform the task.
