Refurbish Work Orders

Overview

The Refurb (refurbish) Work Order is used to refurbish an Item/unit in Inventory. An item to be refurbished must have a Bill of Material. When the Work Order is entered and saved, the user selects the Component Items to be used in the refurbishment of the Item from a pop-up screen that displays all standard Components for this Bill of Material. The Components displayed are the Component Items defined in the Engineering Bill of Material Master. MRP considers the Refurbish Work Order as a Supply Order.

Application

User-added image  EXAMPLE  The Item may be owned by the Company or it may be Customer property that has been consigned by the owner to the Company.  When the Item to refurbish is Customer-owned, the “Consigned” indicator must also be checked.

Refurbishing is often used to replace parts that degrade over time while the parent sits in Inventory. For example, seals, washers, bushings, etc., may need to be replaced after a specified period of time.

Refurbish Work Orders differ from Standard Work Orders and Rework Work Orders in several ways:

  • MRP does not plan Refurb(ish) Work Orders

  • The only Component required on a Refurbish Work Order will be the Parent Item itself. In addition, the Components selected from the pop-up window to be used in the refurbishment of the parent are added as the Component demands.

  • Operations can be extracted by setting an Alternate Operation Code on the Routing Operations and then using that code when using the “Extract Operation” function. Routing Operations can be manually entered into the Work Order.

  • If Components are properly configured for backflushing, they will be backflushed at Work Order Receipt.

  • A Refurbish Work Order can also have the Consigned indicator checked. This indicates to the Work Order that the owner has consigned the item to Inventory, and its cost in Inventory is zero dollars.

  • Inventory Location ID’s can be identified as consigned. Items in a consigned Location ID do not carry a cost.

Fields

Refurb(ish) Indicator:  When checked, denotes a Refurbish Work Order.

Project:  If the Division is under Project Control, a valid Project must be entered. Otherwise, the Project field will be set to the Home Project and disabled.

In Classic, after saving a new Refurbish Work Order record, the system will automatically display a pop-up with the Bill of Material Components for the Item to be refurbished and force the user to select at least one Component. Once the Component(s) is/are selected, click OK to save the Refurbish Work Order.

In Lightning, the pop-up with the Bill of Material Components won't be displayed automatically due to the limitation of the Lightning Component. Once a Refurbish Work Order is created, until the BOM Component(s) is/are selected in the pop-up, the 'Qty Req' on the Work Order Component records will have zero value. The user needs to manually click the Set Refurb Demands action from the Actions drop-down so that the pop-up with the Bill of Material Components for the Item to be refurbished will be displayed. The user must select at least one Component, and once the Component(s) is/are selected, click Finish to close the pop-up.

IMPORTANT image.png  IMPORTANT  In both Classic and Lightning, only the Components selected in the pop-up will have a non-zero value in the 'Qty Req' field, and the remaining Work Order Components will be deleted.

The Related Lists/tab > Components tab/grid displays the selected Bill of Material Components and the Item to be refurbished.

Reporting Component Item issued to the Work Order and Labor Time and Quantity complete is the same as for other Work Orders.

In a Refurbish Work Order, if multiple Work Order Components are created with their parent item as the Component Item, then corresponding Work Order Demand records are created for those Work Order Components. The user can delete these Work Order Components as long as it is not the last Work Order Demand record for the given Work Order.
