Overview
Quotes are often the first step in Sales transactions involving Services, Configured Products, and even Standard Products. Quotes may involve negotiations and updates. Quote may or may not be accepted by the Customer; if it is, it is converted to a Sales Order that is available for Fulfillment and Invoicing.
Application
Rootstock provides the ability to create and manage Quotes similar to Sales Orders. Both of these are created and maintained in fundamentally the same way, including the possible presence of Sales Order Line Components. The main difference between Quotes and Sales Orders is that Quotes cannot be firmed, and therefore cannot be fulfilled. In addition, they have no impact on demands for planning purposes.
Estimate Work Orders may be created for both Configured Products and Stock Products. These Work Orders may then be used to better understand the impact they will have on the capacity required on the shop floor. Now, realistic information can be supplied to the Customer regarding the potential readiness date of the Order.
Processing
For detailed steps on how to add Quote and Quote Lines, see articles below on how to add Sales Order Headers and Sales Order Lines. As stated, the main difference is that Quote Lines cannot be Firmed, therefore cannot go through the Sales Fulfillment process until converted to a Sales Order.
Also, see Sales Order Edit for extra available actions once the Quote Order/Quote Lines are initially saved.

This gives the full capability for the estimate orders to be arranged and scheduled, even between different Work Centers, the same way as standard Work Orders. This will also activate the Plan Computing related fields.
NOTE In order to distinguish between Standard Work Orders and Estimate Sales Orders, the latter will include a label on the top part of their respective tiles when looking at the Work Center and Work Order tabs.
